Winter’s Underwater Forest

The latest issue of “Lake Tides” from the College of Natural Resources at UW Stevens Point has a great article about their recent exploration of aquatic plant communities beneath the snow and ice. They’ve been studying a group of lakes in Central and Northern Wisconsin and are compiling a list of “what lies beneath” – or more accurately “what lives beneath”. There are areas where beds of green plants are a gathering place for living creatures and areas that are completely desolate. Here are two links to their underwater videos.
